Google's AI agent for the terminal. It can read, write and run things on your computer, and it supports the same SKILL.md skills as Claude.

How to use one
When your task matches a skill, Gemini asks your permission to activate it, then follows it. Use /skills list to see what you have.
Plans
Gemini CLI is for paid Google AI and Google Cloud accounts. Since June 18, 2026, free tier and Google One users get Antigravity CLI instead.

How to install a skill in Gemini CLI

  1. Step 1

Copy the install prompt from the skill's page and paste it into Gemini CLI.

  2. Step 2

Gemini runs the installer and puts the skill in ~/.gemini/skills/.

  3. Step 3

Ask for the job. Approve the activation prompt when Gemini asks to use the skill.

The quickest way is to let Gemini CLI do it. Every skill page here has this prompt filled in with the right address; this is what it looks like:

Install prompt for Gemini CLI
Install the skill at [skill address] for Gemini CLI so it works in every project: run `npx skills add [skill address] -a gemini-cli -g -y` in my terminal. If Node.js is missing, tell me how to install it first. When it's done, confirm the skill is installed and tell me how to use it.

Prefer to do it by hand? A skill is just a folder with a SKILL.md file. Put the folder in ~/.gemini/skills/ to use it everywhere, or in .gemini/skills/ or .agents/skills/ inside a project to share it with that project only.

Good to know

  • Each skill asks for your consent the first time it activates in a session.
  • If you are on the free tier, use the Antigravity page instead: Gemini CLI was replaced there.

Skills follow one open standard (a folder with a SKILL.md file), so the same skill also works in Claude Code, Claude app, Codex and ChatGPT. Facts on this page are checked against Google's own documentation.

Skills teach Gemini CLI how to do a job. To let it reach your other tools (Notion, Gmail, Shopify and more), see the MCP servers that work in Gemini CLI.

Frequently asked questions

Does Gemini CLI support Claude skills?

Yes. Gemini CLI reads SKILL.md skills from ~/.gemini/skills/ and .agents/skills/, so skills built for Claude work there too.

Is there a built-in install command?

Yes: gemini skills install followed by a Git address installs a skill, and gemini skills list shows what you have.

Why does Gemini ask before using a skill?

For safety. Gemini shows the skill's name, purpose and the folder it will read, and waits for your OK before loading it.

Which Gemini CLI skills should I try first?

Start with the ones marked Tested at the top of the list: we installed each of them and ran it on a real task, so you can see what it made before you install it. 147 skills in this directory work in Gemini CLI.
