Skills live in
~/.cursor/skills/
How to use one
The agent loads a skill when your request matches it. To use one on purpose, type / in the Agent chat and pick it.
Plans
Skills are part of Cursor's agent, not a paid add-on. Syncing skills to Cloud Agents is managed by Team and Enterprise admins.

How to install a skill in Cursor

  1. Step 1

Copy the install prompt from the skill's page and paste it into Cursor's Agent chat.

  2. Step 2

The agent runs the installer and puts the skill in ~/.cursor/skills/.

  3. Step 3

Open a new chat and ask for the job, or type / and pick the skill.

The quickest way is to let Cursor do it. Every skill page here has this prompt filled in with the right address; this is what it looks like:

Install prompt for Cursor
Install the skill at [skill address] for Cursor so it works in every project: run `npx skills add [skill address] -a cursor -g -y` in my terminal. If Node.js is missing, tell me how to install it first. When it's done, confirm the skill is installed and tell me how to use it.

Prefer to do it by hand? A skill is just a folder with a SKILL.md file. Put the folder in ~/.cursor/skills/ to use it everywhere, or in .cursor/skills/ or .agents/skills/ inside a project to share it with that project only.

Good to know

  • Only skills in ~/.cursor/skills/ sync to Cursor's Cloud Agents. Project skills stay on your computer.
  • Cursor also reads .claude/skills/ folders, so skills you installed for Claude Code show up too.

Skills follow one open standard (a folder with a SKILL.md file), so the same skill also works in Claude Code, Claude app, Codex and ChatGPT. Facts on this page are checked against Anysphere's own documentation.

Skills teach Cursor how to do a job. To let it reach your other tools (Notion, Gmail, Shopify and more), see the MCP servers that work in Cursor.

Frequently asked questions

Does Cursor support Agent Skills?

Yes. Cursor reads SKILL.md skills from .cursor/skills/ and .agents/skills/ in a project and from ~/.cursor/skills/ on your computer. It also picks up skills installed for Claude Code.

What is the difference between Cursor rules and skills?

Rules are always-on instructions. Skills load only when the job needs them, and can bring files and scripts. Cursor even has a /migrate-to-skills command to turn old rules into skills.

How do I run a skill in Cursor?

Ask for the job in the Agent chat and it loads the skill on its own, or type / and choose the skill to attach it to your message.

Which Cursor skills should I try first?

Start with the ones marked Tested at the top of the list: we installed each of them and ran it on a real task, so you can see what it made before you install it. 147 skills in this directory work in Cursor.
