AI For Everyone Review: Is Andrew Ng's Course Worth It?
AI For Everyone is worth it if you run a team or a business and want to understand what AI can and can't do before you spend money on it: four modules, about 7 hours, free to watch on DeepLearning.AI and $49 for a certificate. It teaches no AI tools, so pick a hands-on course if you want to use AI yourself.
By Yotam DahanUpdated 13 min readChoosing an AI course
My AI For Everyone course review in short: it is a sound short introduction to AI for people who decide where AI goes in a business, and a poor pick if you want to learn to use AI tools yourself. Andrew Ng's four modules take about 7 hours, the videos are free to watch with a DeepLearning.AI account, and DeepLearning.AI lists the Coursera certificate at $49. None of its 35 video titles mentions ChatGPT, generative AI or prompting, so pair it with a hands-on course.
How we checked: on October 27, 2026 we read the course pages on Coursera and DeepLearning.AI, opened all four modules and added up the minutes Coursera lists for every video, reading and quiz. We didn't sign in or enroll, so anything Coursera shows only after sign-in, such as its checkout price, is marked that way. Prices are the US dollar figures the pages showed us, and they change.
What AI For Everyone teaches, module by module
AI For Everyone by Andrew Ng is a single course, not a program: four modules that Coursera labels Week 1 to Week 4. DeepLearning.AI's FAQ says you need no technical or business background, and Coursera describes it as largely non-technical.
| Module | Coursera's label | Our total from the item list | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. What is AI? | 2 hours | 1 hour 49 minutes | AI terms such as machine learning, data and deep learning, what makes an AI company, what machine learning can and can't do |
| 2. Building AI Projects | 1 hour | 1 hour 27 minutes | How machine learning and data science projects run, how to choose an AI project, working with an AI team |
| 3. Building AI In Your Company | 2 hours | 2 hours 6 minutes | Case studies of a smart speaker and a self-driving car, AI team roles, the AI Transformation Playbook, pitfalls, first steps |
| 4. AI and Society | 2 hours | 1 hour 35 minutes | A realistic view of AI, bias, attacks on AI systems, harmful uses, developing economies and jobs |

Each module ends with a 30-minute graded quiz, and the lessons are short videos of 2 to 17 minutes plus lecture notes. The item list has no labs, projects or tool exercises: you watch, read and answer quizzes.
For a business owner, the most useful stretch is module 3: two parts of the AI Transformation Playbook (24 minutes of video), a lesson on pitfalls to avoid and one on taking your first step. Module 2's lessons on choosing an AI project and working with an AI team are the other part you can apply the same week.
How long is AI For Everyone?
Plan on 6 to 7 hours. Coursera's module labels add up to 7 hours, and when we added up the 47 items in its syllabus we got 6 hours 57 minutes: 4 hours 23 minutes of video, 33 minutes of reading, 2 hours of graded quizzes and a 1-minute intake survey. DeepLearning.AI's page says 6h54m, three minutes less.
Videos, readings, quizzes and the intake survey as listed on the Coursera course page, October 27, 2026.
The labels round in both directions. Module 2 is labelled 1 hour but lists 87 minutes, and module 4 is labelled 2 hours but lists 95, so don't plan your week by the labels. The four quizzes alone take 2 hours by Coursera's estimate, more than a quarter of the course.
Scrolling through the four AI For Everyone modules on Coursera with every item opened. What is AI? lists 71 minutes of video, 7 of reading, a 30-minute quiz and a 1-minute survey; Building AI Projects is labelled 1 hour but lists 52, 5 and 30 minutes; Building AI In Your Company lists 90, 6 and 30; AI and Society lists 50, 15 and 30.
minutes in all, or 6 hours 57 minutes
minutes of video across 35 lessons
minutes marked optional
minutes if you skip the optional items
Our sums of the item list on the AI For Everyone Coursera page, October 27, 2026.
The optional part is five videos (two on deep learning, one on technical tools for AI teams and two surveys of AI applications and techniques, 49 minutes in all) and a 10-minute reading about mentoring other learners. Skip them and you are left with just under 6 hours.
How many weeks? DeepLearning.AI's FAQ says the course typically takes 4 weeks at 2 to 3 hours a week, which is 8 to 12 hours, more than the syllabus adds up to. Coursera calls the schedule flexible. With 6 to 7 hours of material, four evenings or two weekend mornings are enough, notes included.
Is AI For Everyone free?
The videos are; the certificate isn't. You can watch all 35 videos at no cost on DeepLearning.AI with a free account, but the 4 graded quizzes and the certificate come with a paid option: DeepLearning.AI Pro, or the course's certificate on Coursera.
| How you take it | What it costs (US dollars, October 27, 2026) | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| DeepLearning.AI, free plan | $0, with a free account | Every video |
| DeepLearning.AI Pro, monthly | $30 a month | Videos, graded quizzes and a certificate, plus the rest of the Pro catalog |
| DeepLearning.AI Pro, yearly | $300 a year ($25 a month) | The same, for a year |
| Coursera certificate | $49 for 180 days, according to DeepLearning.AI's FAQ; Coursera shows its own price only after you sign in | Course materials, graded quizzes and a Coursera certificate |
| Coursera financial aid | Apply through the link on the course page if you can't afford the fee; Coursera decides | The certificate route, if approved |

Which paid route is cheaper depends on your pace. If you finish within a month, one month of DeepLearning.AI Pro at $30 costs less than $49, and its FAQ says that after you downgrade you keep access and can still earn certificates until the billing period ends. If you need longer, Coursera's $49 covers 180 days. That figure comes from a DeepLearning.AI FAQ that still says the course runs on Coursera, although the same page now lets you enroll on DeepLearning.AI itself, so check Coursera's price at checkout before you pay. The two certificates come from different platforms: Coursera's goes on your Coursera Accomplishments page and on LinkedIn, and DeepLearning.AI issues its own with Pro.
Coursera's page doesn't promise a free audit. Its FAQ says you need to buy the certificate to reach the course materials and assignments, and that only some courses offer a full course without a certificate. The free way in is DeepLearning.AI.
Is AI For Everyone included in Coursera Plus?
Not as far as Coursera's own pages show. Coursera Plus costs $59 a month or $399 a year. The Google AI Essentials page shows an "Included with Coursera Plus" line under its enrollment count; the AI For Everyone page on Coursera has no such line, and the listing data behind Coursera's course and search pages marks it as not part of Coursera Plus, like the other DeepLearning.AI courses in the same results. The page still shows a general Coursera Plus banner, so don't let that decide it: if you already pay for Plus, check the enrollment screen after you sign in.
The AI For Everyone certificate
On Coursera you get a shareable electronic certificate after the graded quizzes, added to your Accomplishments page and ready for your LinkedIn profile. Coursera's page lists no college credit and makes no promise about employers. It shows that you finished a well-known introduction by Andrew Ng, which fits a manager's CV, but it isn't a job qualification.
AI For Everyone ratings: what 53,470 reviews show
Learners rate it highly: 4.8 from 53,470 reviews on Coursera, with 2,660,389 people enrolled and a badge saying 97% of learners liked it, on October 27, 2026. We don't quote individual reviews; the distribution says enough.
From the Coursera course page, 53,470 reviews, October 27, 2026.
A high rating tells you the people who took it were happy with what it is: a clear overview. It can't tell you whether an overview is what you need, which is the question the next two sections answer.
Is AI For Everyone up to date in 2026?
Partly. DeepLearning.AI marks the course as updated on July 17, 2026, and the ideas it teaches, how AI projects are chosen, staffed and run, still hold. But the lesson list is about classic machine learning: case studies of a smart speaker and a self-driving car, deep learning explained without math, and no lesson title that mentions generative AI, large language models, ChatGPT or prompting.
DeepLearning.AI says as much on the page of its follow-up course, Generative AI for Everyone: its FAQ explains that large language models changed the field and that the newer course covers them. If your goal is to use today's AI assistants, start there or with a prompting course. If your job is deciding where AI fits in a company, AI For Everyone spends two of its four modules on exactly that, and that is the reason to take it.
Is AI For Everyone worth it?
Yes for managers, founders and anyone who has to talk about AI with a team or a vendor: it is short, free to watch and written for people with no technical background. No if you want to get work done with AI tools this month, because it doesn't teach any.
| Verdict | |
|---|---|
| Built for people with no technical background | Yes |
| Free to watch | Yes |
| Short enough for four evenings | Yes |
| Teaches how to choose and run an AI project | Yes |
| Covers generative AI, ChatGPT or prompting | No |
| Hands-on practice with AI tools | No |
| Included in Coursera Plus | No |

AI For Everyone vs Google AI Essentials and other courses
AI For Everyone explains AI to decision makers; Google AI Essentials teaches you to use AI tools at work. Here is how it compares with the courses people weigh it against, from each official page on October 27, 2026:
| Course | Length | Price | Focus | Pick it over AI For Everyone if you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AI For Everyone, DeepLearning.AI | 4 modules, 6 hours 57 minutes by our count | Videos free; certificate $49 on Coursera or with Pro | AI concepts, AI projects, AI strategy, AI and society | (the course reviewed here) |
| Google AI Essentials, Google on Coursera | 5 courses, 8 hours by its course labels | $49 a month after a 7-day trial in the US and Canada; shown as included in Coursera Plus | Using AI tools at work, prompting, responsible use | Want to use AI tools in your daily work; see our Google AI Essentials review |
| Generative AI for Everyone, DeepLearning.AI | 5h1m, 32 videos | Videos free; certificate with Pro | How generative AI and large language models work and where they fit | Want the newer technology explained; updated October 8, 2026 |
| AI Prompting for Everyone, DeepLearning.AI | 7h4m, 21 videos | Videos free; certificate with Pro | Research, writing, images and simple sites with an AI assistant | Want better results from the assistant you use every day; updated July 24, 2026 |
| Our own AI course for beginners, ai school | Four courses | Early access (pre-order) | Claude Code, websites, AI content and automations for your business | Want to build real things for your business |
Disclosure: ai school sells its own AI courses, all in early access. That is why ours sits in a labelled row of its own and plays no part in the verdict above.

How to use AI For Everyone at work
Pick one process
Before module 1, choose a task in your business that eats time every week
Name the data
During module 2, write down what data that task produces and where it lives
Score it
Use module 2's lessons on choosing a project to judge whether AI can help
Write one page
After module 3, draft a pilot: the goal, the owner, the risk and the first step
The course gives you the frame; the value comes from using it on one real decision while it is fresh. It won't give you hands-on practice, so our guide on how to learn AI has a 30-day plan for the part the course leaves out.
