Best Claude Code Courses in 2026: Free and Paid, Compared
The best Claude Code courses compared: Anthropic Academy, DeepLearning.AI, Claude Code for Everyone, Udemy, Coursera, Maven and ours, with verified prices.

On this page
The best Claude Code course depends on one thing: whether you already code. Developers should start with Anthropic's free Claude Code 101 and the official docs, then move to Claude Code in Action. Non-developers have three good routes: the free, interactive Claude Code for Everyone; a live Maven cohort if you want a teacher; or the $7 ai school course if you want to finish with real business projects such as a landing page, an AI video and an invoice agent.
How we compared them
We checked every course on its own official page on October 18, 2026, for price, length, format, certificate and the skills it assumes you have. The question behind every pick: who is this course actually built for?
ai school is our own course and appears below. Where another course is the better fit for you, we say so. Whatever you pick, the five-question test in are AI courses worth it takes two minutes and works on any course.

The courses, one by one
Anthropic Academy: Claude Code 101 and Claude Code in Action
Anthropic runs a free academy on Skilljar (also linked from its docs as Claude Academy). Claude Code 101 covers how Claude Code works, installation, daily workflows and customizing it with CLAUDE.md, subagents, skills, MCP and hooks. Its page asks for basic familiarity with a code editor and the command line, plus a Claude plan or API key.
Claude Code in Action is the next step, for people who already use Claude Code and want longer, more hands-off sessions: plan mode, permission modes, hooks, scheduled routines and packaging a setup as a plugin.
- Choose them if you are comfortable in a code editor, or you want the source closest to the tool's makers.
- Skip them if you have never opened a terminal. Start with a beginner course, then come back.
DeepLearning.AI: Claude Code, A Highly Agentic Coding Assistant
A 2-hour course of 10 video lessons, built with Anthropic and taught by Elie Schoppik, Anthropic's head of technical education (course page). You watch Claude Code work on three projects, including a chatbot codebase and a web app built from a Figma design. Access is free during the platform's beta, but the certificate needs a Pro membership, listed at $25 a month billed annually or $30 billed monthly on DeepLearning.AI's course pages.
- Choose it if you know Python and Git, which the page recommends.
- Skip it if you don't code. The examples assume you can read the code being changed.
Claude Code for Everyone
A free course by independent creator Carl Vellotti that runs inside Claude Code: Claude walks you through each lesson interactively (ccforeveryone.com). The fundamentals module has 8 lessons and takes about 3 hours, and a second module on building and publishing a site takes 1 to 2 more. The site says no coding or terminal experience is required, and you need Claude Pro or Max. It is not affiliated with Anthropic.
- Choose it if you are a non-developer who learns best by doing, and the price has to be zero.
- Skip it if you want a teacher to answer questions, or projects aimed at a specific business task.
Coursera: Vanderbilt's Claude Code course
Dr. Jules White's course covers delegating large tasks, generating several versions of a feature and comparing them, CLAUDE.md files, custom commands and parallel work with Git worktrees, across 6 modules and about 5 hours (course page). It is included in Coursera Plus, and its page requires basic software development experience, Git and paid access to Claude Code.
- Choose it if you are a developer who wants a university-branded certificate.
- Skip it if you are new to code. It is listed as beginner level, but its requirements are not.
Udemy
Udemy has dozens of Claude Code courses by independent instructors, and quality varies. Two examples we checked:
| Course | Length | Last updated | Built for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Code: Building Faster with AI, from Prototype to Prod, by Frank Kane | 39 lectures, 4 hours 22 minutes | September 2026 | People with web development and Git experience |
| Claude Code: Build Apps with Claude AI: Coding with AI, by Free Courses On Udemy | 12 lectures, 59 minutes, free | April 2026 | Complete beginners |
Udemy prices change with frequent sales and by country, so check the price shown to you. Paid Udemy courses come with a certificate of completion; free ones don't.
- Choose one if you want a single recorded course from a specific instructor you trust.
- Skip the rest if the last update is older than a few months, because Claude Code changes fast.
Maven live cohorts
Maven hosts live courses by independent instructors. Two current Claude Code cohorts that state no coding is needed:
| Course | Price | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Code for Beginners: 2 Day Launchpad, by Avthar Sewrathan | $499 | Two live classes on October 23 and 24, 2026, plus a setup session and two weeks of Slack help |
| Claude Code for Founders, Creators and Tech Teams, by Dheeraj Sharma | $1,597 | 6 live sessions from November 14 to December 21, 2026, groups of 12 or fewer |
Both show the Maven Guarantee, which on eligible cohorts allows a refund through the course midpoint, or through week 2 for courses of four weeks or more (Maven's guarantee).
- Choose a cohort if you get stuck alone and want someone to unblock you live.
- Skip it if the price is out of reach. The free and $7 options cover the same ground without the live help.
ai school: the Claude Code course
Our Claude Code course is built for people who have never opened a terminal: 35 lessons, about six hours of video, $7 once with lifetime access and updates. It covers installation, CLAUDE.md, skills and MCP, prompting and checking AI's work, then three builds: a landing page published on Vercel, an AI video with Higgsfield and ElevenLabs, and an agent that sends invoices from your inbox to your accountant.
- Choose it if you want to finish with business projects, not exercises.
- Pick something else if you are a developer who wants advanced engineering patterns (Anthropic Academy), you want a live teacher (Maven) or the budget is zero (Claude Code for Everyone).

Quick check0 of 2 correct
You have never used a terminal and want a free way to start. Which course fits best?
Not quite.
The DeepLearning.AI and Vanderbilt courses both assume coding experience. Claude Code for Everyone says no coding or terminal experience is required.
What do all of these courses need you to have to follow along?
Not quite.
Claude Code itself requires a paid Claude plan, a Claude Console account or a supported cloud provider.
What to do next
Pick your row in the decision table and start that one course this week. Before the first lesson, install Claude Code with the install guide so the course time goes into learning, not setup. If you choose ours, the Claude Code course starts with installation and ends with three projects you can use in your business.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a paid Claude plan to take a Claude Code course?
To follow along, yes. Anthropic's quickstart lists a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan, a Claude Console account with API credits, or a supported cloud provider. You can watch most courses without one, but you learn far more by doing each step yourself.
Can I learn Claude Code if I have never used a terminal?
Yes. Anthropic's documentation includes a terminal guide for first-timers, and Claude Code also runs in the desktop app and in VS Code. Courses for non-developers, such as Claude Code for Everyone and the ai school course, start from installation.
How quickly do Claude Code courses go out of date?
Quickly, because Claude Code changes often. Check the last updated date before you buy, which Udemy shows on every course page. ai school includes course updates at no extra cost.
Should I take more than one Claude Code course?
Usually not at first. Take one course, build one real project with it, and only then fill the gaps with a second, more specific course, such as Anthropic's Claude Code in Action for longer and more automated sessions.
