Start in Lovable, Bolt or v0 if you want a working prototype this afternoon without ever opening a file. Start in Claude Code if you want full control over the code, the hosting and the monthly bill from day one. They also work in sequence: prototype in a builder, sync it to GitHub, then keep building in Claude Code.

Two different kinds of tool

What each one actually is

Lovable

A browser-based app builder. You chat, it builds and hosts a web app, with two-way GitHub sync.

Bolt

A browser-based builder from StackBlitz with hosting, databases and GitHub backup, billed in tokens.

v0

Vercel's builder. You chat or edit visually, sync to GitHub and deploy to Vercel.

Claude Code

An agent on your own computer that edits real files in any stack and deploys wherever you choose.

The difference shows up when a project grows. A builder decides the structure and the hosting for you, which is why it is fast. An agent leaves those decisions with you, which is why it takes a little longer to start and is easier to steer later.

If you are still choosing an approach, our guide to building a website with AI compares site builders and agents end to end.

  • Claude Pro$20
  • Lovable Pro$25
  • Bolt Pro$25
  • v0 Plus$30 per user

From the official pricing pages of Lovable, Bolt, v0 and Claude. Claude Pro is the plan that includes Claude Code.

What a single change costs in a builder

Lovable publishes examples of what common requests cost, which makes the credit model easy to picture:

Lovable's own credit examples
0.50

credits to make a button gray

1.20

credits to add sign up and login

1.70

credits to build a landing page with images

From Lovable's pricing page. A message in Plan Mode costs 1 credit.

With Claude Code, edits don't have a per-message price. They count against your Claude plan's limits, which you share with Claude chat. Our Claude Code pricing guide explains how those limits work.

The hosting line item

Lovable and Bolt include hosting in their plans, and v0 deploys to your Vercel account. With Claude Code you publish wherever you like, and that can cost money for a business.

For example, Vercel's free Hobby plan is for personal, non-commercial use, and its Pro plan costs $20 a month, according to Vercel's pricing page. Budget for hosting before you compare monthly totals.

Control and ownership

Who decides what the code looks like

In a builder, you steer through chat and visual edits, and the builder picks the defaults. In Claude Code, you can write your rules into a CLAUDE.md file, choose any framework and keep the project in a normal folder on your computer.

Builders and agents share the same risks, from security holes to code nobody understands. Our honest look at whether vibe coding is bad covers how to avoid them with either approach.

Who owns the code

  • Lovable. Its pricing page says you own your code. You can export and two-way sync with GitHub on every plan, as its GitHub docs explain, and paid plans can also download the codebase directly.
  • Bolt. A GitHub connection backs up and syncs your project. You can publish with Bolt hosting, Netlify or another service.
  • v0. Even the free plan includes GitHub sync and deploys to Vercel.
  • Claude Code. The files are on your computer from the first minute.

How to move a builder project into Claude Code

From builder to Claude Code
  1. Sync to GitHub

Connect GitHub in Lovable, Bolt or v0 and push the project

  2. Clone it

Copy the repository to your computer with GitHub Desktop or git clone

  3. Audit

Ask Claude Code to explain the project before changing anything

  4. Set rules

Run /init to write a CLAUDE.md with your project's rules

  5. Deploy

Publish to the host you choose and set your secrets there

On Mac or Linux, with your own GitHub name and repository in place of the capitals:

Terminal
git clone https://github.com/YOUR-NAME/YOUR-REPO.git
cd YOUR-REPO
claude

On Windows, run the same three lines in PowerShell, with Git for Windows installed. Then start with an audit instead of an edit:

Your first prompt after the move
This project was built in [LOVABLE, BOLT OR V0] and is now on my computer. Read it and tell me: what it does, which framework it uses, how to run it locally, which outside services it depends on (database, login, email, AI), and which keys or environment variables it needs. Don't change anything yet.

A typical follow-up sounds like this:

  1. You:

How do I run this on my computer?

  2. Claude Code:

It's a web app that needs Node.js. Run npm install once, then npm run dev, and open the local address it prints. It also expects two keys in a .env file. Want me to create a template with the names but no real values?

  3. You:

Yes, and add .env to .gitignore so the keys never reach GitHub.

Lovable vs Bolt in one minute

If you have decided on a builder, these two are the most compared:

LovableBolt
Free allowance5 credits a day, up to 30 a month1M tokens a month, up to 300K a day
First paid planPro, $25 a month, 100 creditsPro, $25 a month, from 10M tokens
Paying for a teamNot per seat: unlimited members share the creditsTeams, $30 per member a month
Unused allowanceMonthly credits expire two months after they are issuedUnused tokens roll over on Pro

Lovable suits teams that want one shared pool of credits. Bolt suits people who like a big free monthly allowance and rollover.

Which one charges per message, with a cost that depends on the task?

What to do next

If you have an idea and no prototype, build a first version in a builder's free plan this week, and connect GitHub on day one. If you already have a prototype that is getting messy, clone it and run the audit prompt above in Claude Code before you change anything.

Our Builders course covers planning, design, a landing page and SEO with Claude Code, and the Claude Code course starts from installation if you have never used it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my own domain name?

Yes. Lovable includes custom domains from Pro, Bolt includes custom domain support on Pro, and v0 deploys to Vercel, where you connect your domain. With Claude Code, you connect the domain at whichever host you deploy to.

Are my projects private on the free plans?

Lovable's free plan includes workspace-private projects, and Bolt's free plan offers both public and private projects. A Claude Code project is a folder on your own computer, so it stays private until you publish it.

Can I get a refund on unused Lovable credits?

No. Lovable says credits aren't refundable or redeemable for cash. If you cancel, you can keep using your remaining credits until the end of the billing period.

Is there a student discount?

Lovable offers verified students up to 50% off its Pro plan. Discounts change, so check each tool's own site before you subscribe.

Do I need to know Git to move a project into Claude Code?

Not really. The builder pushes your code to GitHub for you, GitHub Desktop downloads the repository with a few clicks, and Claude Code can run Git commands for you when you ask.
