Time MCP Server

Give Claude the current time in any timezone and convert times between zones.

Reference serverby Model Context ProtocolRuns on your computerChecked October 18, 2026

The Time reference server tells Claude the current time in any IANA timezone and converts a time from one zone to another, detecting your own timezone automatically. It is small and dependable, which helps with scheduling across countries and with any request that depends on today's date.

Who it is for

  • Remote teams scheduling across timezones
  • Anyone planning calls or launches with people in other countries
  • Workflows where Claude needs the real current date and time

Prompts to try

Once it is connected, ask in plain words. Claude decides when to use the server and asks before it changes anything important.

Prompt 1
What time is it right now in Tokyo and in New York?
Prompt 2
If I book a call for 16:00 Berlin time, what time is that in London and in San Francisco?

How to connect it

In Claude Code

  1. claude mcp add --transport stdio time -- uvx mcp-server-time

In the Claude desktop app

Add this to claude_desktop_config.json, then restart the app:

json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "time": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "mcp-server-time"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Good to know

Timezone names must be exact IANA keys such as Europe/London; a Docker image (mcp/time) is also available.

How we checked it

Checked the server's folder in the modelcontextprotocol/servers repo (last commit 2026-10-10) and its README, and the PyPI package mcp-server-time (2026.10.10, published 2026-10-11, declared MIT).
