CoinGecko MCP Server

Live and historical crypto prices, market caps and coin data, with a free keyless server.

Officialby CoinGeckoHosted or on your computerChecked October 18, 2026

CoinGecko's official MCP server gives Claude access to its crypto market data API, including prices, market caps, trading volume, historical charts and coin details. A free keyless endpoint works without signing up, while a Demo or Pro API key raises those limits through the hosted Pro endpoint or the local npm package.

Who it is for

  • Crypto investors and traders
  • Researchers and writers covering crypto
  • Developers building crypto dashboards

Prompts to try

Once it is connected, ask in plain words. Claude decides when to use the server and asks before it changes anything important.

Prompt 1
What are the current prices and 7-day changes for Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana?
Prompt 2
Chart Ethereum's daily closing price over the last 90 days and point out the biggest drop.
Prompt 3
Which coins are trending on CoinGecko right now?

How to connect it

In Claude Code

  1. claude mcp add --transport http coingecko https://mcp.api.coingecko.com/mcp

In the Claude desktop app

Customize > Connectors > + Add > Add custom connector, URL: https://mcp.api.coingecko.com/mcp

Hosted address: https://mcp.api.coingecko.com/mcp

Good to know

The keyless server has shared rate limits; for higher limits use https://mcp.pro-api.coingecko.com/mcp and enter your CoinGecko API key when the browser asks.

How we checked it

Checked CoinGecko's MCP docs, the @coingecko/coingecko-mcp npm package and its source in coingecko/coingecko-typescript (Apache-2.0, commit 2026-10); the keyless endpoint completed an MCP handshake and listed its tools, and the Pro endpoint answers with an OAuth challenge.
