Square MCP
Query and manage Square payments, orders, customers, catalog items and inventory.
Officialby SquareHosted or on your computerChecked October 18, 2026
Square's MCP server, still labeled beta, gives Claude the whole Square API through three tools that find a service, look up its request fields and make the call. The hosted version uses OAuth and only reaches production data, while the local npm package runs with an access token and can point at a sandbox or stay read-only.
Who it is for
- Retail and restaurant owners on Square
- Small business staff pulling sales numbers
- Developers building on the Square API
Prompts to try
Once it is connected, ask in plain words. Claude decides when to use the server and asks before it changes anything important.
How much did each of my Square locations sell yesterday?Find the customer profile for Maria Gomez and list her last five orders.Which catalog items are out of stock right now?How to connect it
In Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http square https://mcp.squareup.com/mcp
In the Claude desktop app
Customize > Connectors > Discover: search Square, then select Connect to Claude
Hosted address: https://mcp.squareup.com/mcp
Good to know
The hosted server reaches production data only. For sandbox testing run the local server with ACCESS_TOKEN=YOUR_ACCESS_TOKEN SANDBOX=true npx square-mcp-server start. Square keeps an allowlist of MCP clients and takes requests to add one on its developer forum.

How we checked it
Checked Square's MCP docs, the square/square-mcp-server repo (Apache-2.0, last commit October 2026), the npm package square-mcp-server and the Claude connectors directory listing; the hosted endpoint answers with an OAuth challenge.
