Slack MCP Server

Search, read and post in your Slack workspace, plus canvases, lists and files.

Officialby SlackHosted, nothing to installChecked October 18, 2026

Slack's own hosted MCP server lets Claude search messages, files, channels and people, read threads, and send or schedule messages with your user permissions. It also creates and updates canvases and lists, and workspace admins approve and manage which AI clients may connect.

Who it is for

  • Teams that run their daily work in Slack
  • Managers who need quick catch-ups on busy channels
  • Support and ops teams digging through past threads

Prompts to try

Once it is connected, ask in plain words. Claude decides when to use the server and asks before it changes anything important.

Prompt 1
Summarize what happened in #product-launch this week and list any open questions.
Prompt 2
Find the thread where we decided on the new pricing and tell me who approved it.
Prompt 3
Create a canvas in #marketing with the action items from today's discussion.

How to connect it

In Claude Code

  1. claude mcp add --transport http --scope local slack https://mcp.slack.com/mcp

In the Claude desktop app

Customize > Connectors > Discover: search Slack, then select Connect to Claude

Hosted address: https://mcp.slack.com/mcp

Good to know

Run /mcp to sign in. If sign-in fails, Slack's official plugin (/plugin install slack@claude-plugins-official) preconfigures Slack's OAuth client.

How we checked it

Checked Slack's developer docs (server overview plus the Claude and Claude Code setup pages), the Slack listing in Claude's connectors directory and the OAuth discovery metadata; the hosted endpoint answers with an OAuth challenge.
