Neon MCP Server

Create Neon Postgres projects and branches, run SQL and test migrations safely.

Officialby NeonHosted, nothing to installChecked October 18, 2026

Neon's hosted MCP server lets Claude manage Neon projects, branches and roles, run SQL, and try schema changes and query tuning on a temporary branch before they touch your main data. You connect with OAuth or a Neon API key, and read-only mode hides the write tools and runs every query in a read-only transaction.

Who it is for

  • Developers using Neon Postgres
  • Teams that test schema changes on branches
  • Solo founders building on serverless Postgres

Prompts to try

Once it is connected, ask in plain words. Claude decides when to use the server and asks before it changes anything important.

Prompt 1
Create a new Neon project called side-project and give me its connection string.
Prompt 2
Add a nullable last_login column to the users table, test it on a branch first, then apply it.
Prompt 3
Find the slowest queries on my main branch and suggest indexes for them.

How to connect it

In Claude Code

  1. claude mcp add --transport http neon https://mcp.neon.tech/mcp

In the Claude desktop app

Customize > Connectors > Discover: search Neon, then select Connect to Claude

Hosted address: https://mcp.neon.tech/mcp

Good to know

Run /mcp to sign in, or add --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_NEON_API_KEY" to use an API key; add ?readonly=true to the URL for read-only access.

How we checked it

Checked Neon's MCP docs and client setup guide, the neondatabase/mcp-server-neon repo (MIT, last commit 2026-10), its listing in Claude's connectors directory and the registry entry (com.neon/mcp); the hosted endpoint answers with an OAuth challenge.
