Context7
Pull current, version-specific library docs and code examples into Claude.
Officialby UpstashHosted or on your computerChecked October 18, 2026
Context7 looks up the official documentation and code snippets for a library and gives Claude the parts that match your question, so answers follow the version you actually use. It works without an account, and a free API key from the Context7 dashboard raises the rate limits.
Who it is for
- Developers working with fast-moving frameworks
- People building apps with Claude Code who keep getting outdated API answers
- Teams that want code grounded in official docs
Prompts to try
Once it is connected, ask in plain words. Claude decides when to use the server and asks before it changes anything important.
Use Context7 to show me how middleware works in the latest Next.js version.Check Context7 for the current Supabase JavaScript client syntax and fix my query code.Look up the Tailwind CSS v4 docs in Context7 and update my config to match. How to connect it
In Claude Code
claude mcp add --scope user --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" --transport http context7 https://mcp.context7.com/mcp
In the Claude desktop app
Customize > Connectors > Discover: search Context7, then select Connect to Claude
Hosted address: https://mcp.context7.com/mcp
Good to know
The API key is optional: drop the --header part to start without one, and add a free key later if you hit rate limits.

How we checked it
Checked the GitHub repo (MIT, 63.2k stars, commits through 2026-10-17), the npm package @upstash/context7-mcp, Context7's client setup docs and its Claude connectors listing; the hosted endpoint answered a test tool call with no API key.
