AWS MCP Server

AWS's managed MCP server for running AWS tasks and searching current AWS docs.

Officialby Amazon Web ServicesHosted, nothing to installChecked October 18, 2026

The AWS MCP Server is a managed endpoint run by AWS that lets Claude call AWS APIs under your own IAM permissions, so access stays auditable and can be limited with IAM policies. It also searches current AWS documentation and serves step-by-step AWS skills, and AWS now recommends it over the older open-source AWS API and AWS Knowledge servers.

Who it is for

  • Developers deploying apps on AWS
  • Cloud and DevOps engineers
  • Teams that want audited agent access to AWS

Prompts to try

Once it is connected, ask in plain words. Claude decides when to use the server and asks before it changes anything important.

Prompt 1
List my running EC2 instances in us-east-1 and flag any that have no Name tag.
Prompt 2
Check my Lambda functions for recent errors and summarize what the CloudWatch logs show.
Prompt 3
Is Amazon Bedrock available in eu-central-1, and what do I need to set up to call it from a Lambda function?

How to connect it

In Claude Code

  1. claude mcp add aws-mcp https://aws-mcp.us-east-1.api.aws/mcp --transport http

In the Claude desktop app

Customize > Connectors > Discover: search AWS MCP, then select Connect to Claude

Hosted address: https://aws-mcp.us-east-1.api.aws/mcp

Good to know

OAuth sign-in needs the AWSMCPSignInOAuthAccessPolicy managed policy on your IAM user or role; other Regions use their own endpoint, such as https://aws-mcp.eu-west-1.api.aws/mcp.

How we checked it

Checked AWS's Agent Toolkit setup guide, tool reference and document history (OAuth added 2026-07, six new Regions on 2026-09-30) and the Claude directory listing; the us-east-1 endpoint answers an MCP initialize request.
