Perplexity MCP Server

Perplexity search, cited answers, deep research and reasoning inside Claude.

Officialby PerplexityHosted or on your computerChecked October 18, 2026

Perplexity's official server brings its API platform into Claude, from ranked search results to cited answers, long research reports and step-by-step reasoning. It is offered as a hosted endpoint you sign in to or as a local npm package, and tool calls are billed at standard Perplexity API rates.

Who it is for

  • Analysts who need cited answers
  • Writers and students doing background research
  • Teams that already use the Perplexity API

How we checked it

Checked the GitHub repo (MIT, last commit 2026-10-17), Perplexity's MCP docs, the @perplexity-ai/mcp-server npm package and the registry entry ai.perplexity/mcp-server; the hosted endpoint returns a 401 with OAuth metadata.
