Blender MCP Server

Let Claude inspect, script and fix Blender scenes through Blender's Python API.

Officialby Blender Lab (Blender project)Runs on your computerChecked October 18, 2026

Blender's official MCP server, built by Blender Lab, connects Claude to a running copy of Blender through a small add-on so it can analyze scenes, look up the Python API and run Python code for you. It suits jobs such as finding the heaviest objects in a scene, renaming data-blocks in bulk or documenting node setups, and Blender advises running it on a machine without sensitive data because the generated code runs without safeguards.

Who it is for

  • 3D artists
  • Technical artists and pipeline developers
  • Students learning Blender

Prompts to try

Once it is connected, ask in plain words. Claude decides when to use the server and asks before it changes anything important.

Prompt 1
Which objects in this scene have the highest polygon count, and why?
Prompt 2
Rename every material in this file to follow the pattern MAT_ObjectName.
Prompt 3
List any missing textures or linked files in this .blend file.

How to connect it

In Claude Code

  1. claude mcp add --transport stdio blender -- uv --directory YOUR_PATH/blender_mcp/mcp run blender-mcp

In the Claude desktop app

Download the blender .mcpb bundle from the project's releases page and open it to install the extension

Good to know

First enable the MCP add-on in Blender 5.1 or newer; for Claude Code, clone https://projects.blender.org/lab/blender_mcp.git. Blender suggests a virtual machine or a system without sensitive data.

How we checked it

Checked the Blender Lab MCP page, the projects.blender.org repository (GPL-3.0-or-later, last commit 2026-09, release 1.0.3 with an .mcpb bundle; hosted outside GitHub, so no GitHub stars) and Anthropic's Claude for Creative Work announcement.
